Chipotle paste
Also called chipotle chilli paste, smoked chilli paste
Smooth paste of chipotle chillies, often with tomato, vinegar and garlic. Stirred into stews, chilli, marinades, mayonnaise and dressings.

What can replace it

Less concentrated chilli; slightly thinner and milder.

Rehydrate and blend; lacks the tangy, sweet adobo note.

Mix with a little water, vinegar and sugar; drier and less rounded. (use 0.5× the amount)

Smoky but much milder and flatter. (use 0.5× the amount)
